Details and Information

There is no shortage of things to do at Kingfisher Bend Ranch. Here is a list of some of the activities you can enjoy while staying at the Ranch:

Horseback Riding – The horses love to give tours around our 1,260 acre ranch. Children can be led on short rides through the cottonwood trees and down to the Bear River. The Ranch also has an outdoor riding arena where you can ride under the supervision of the Ranch manager and receive horsemanship lessons. The Ranch manager guides horse rides on Ranch trails.

Hiking – There are a number of trails at the Ranch and there are numerous day hikes available in the nearby Uinta Mountains in the Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The Forest Service Ranger Station (about six miles south of the Ranch) has information on lakes, trails, and picnic areas in the Uintas.

Photography – Southwestern Wyoming and the Uinta Mountains provide some spectacular scenery. Impressive sunsets occur nearly every evening throughout the summer. That, coupled with abundant birds and wildlife in season, makes Kingfisher Bend Ranch a wonderful place for photographers.

Outdoor Barbeque – On the back porch of the main lodge is the Ranch’s propane grill for steaks, burgers, hotdogs, or whatever your heart desires. If you stay at the main lodge, bring your family together and build lasting memories over a delicious flame-grilled meal in the hills of Wyoming.

Outdoor Campfire – The stars shine bright at Kingfisher Bend Ranch. Plan a marshmallow roast at our outdoor campfire pit. Our fire pit sits in the midst of giant cottonwood trees away from the cabins, so you can enjoy an outdoor experience without being too far from the comforts of home.

Sand Volleyball – In the midst of a small clearing is a wonderful sand volleyball court. Volleyballs are available at the Ranch.

Horseshoes – Next to the main lodge are horseshoe pits. Try your aim, enjoy a laugh and just have fun.

Basketball – We’ve installed an adjustable height basketball hoop with glass backboard. Outdoor lighting allows you to shoot hoops after dark. It’s real ranch ball playing next to the corrals by the side of the barn.

Pickleball – A game similar to tennis that is played with a perforated whiffle ball and wood or plastic composite paddles.  The game is easy to learn and can quickly develop into a fast-paced, enjoyable activity.

Nine “Hole” Frisbee Golf – Compete through the trees and meadows throwing Ranch-provided Frisbees toward the numbered targets. Keep score just like golf. A fun and challenging activity for children and adults.

Uinta Mountains – Vast forest land is just a few miles from the Ranch. You can pick up recreation passes at the Forest Service Ranger Station (See "Hiking"), go on a picnic, take a day hike, or explore a number of scenic lakes and spectacular roadways.

Bicycling – If you enjoy mountain biking, bring your bike and explore the Ranch, or ride your mountain bike or road bike into the Uinta Mountains. The Ranch manager can drive you to the top of 10,400 foot Mt. Baldy Pass from which you can ride 31 miles back to the Ranch. The ride is mostly downhill and takes about 2.5 hours.

Kayaking and Boating – The Ranch has two sit-on-top kayaks and a row boat. You can use the boats on our pond for fishing, recreational paddling or water fights. You can take the kayaks down the Bear River through the Ranch when water levels permit.  For windsurfing and water skiing, Sulfur Creek Resevoir is only 20 minutes from the Ranch.

Swimming – Both the pond and the Bear River provide excellent swimming in the summer. Take a short hike to "Palm Beach" (a bend on the Bear River that has a large, sandy beach) and splash in the river. It’s a terrific place to enjoy lunch and afternoon fun.

Fishing – We stock our pond with trout and the Bear River provides excellent fly fishing. You’ll need a Wyoming fishing license to fish the Bear River but not on our pond (See Fishing Rules under Private Fly Fishing).  The world-famous Green River tailwater trout fishery is just over two hours from the Ranch.  Guests will need to bring their own fishing gear.

Game Room – The main Lodge has a number of activities including ping pong, foosball, games, puzzles and puppets. The Game Room is only accessible if you are renting the main Lodge, or if no guests are staying in the main Lodge.

Snowmobiling – Four snowmobiles are available for rent during winter months (or bring your own). Miles of meadows, forest and rangeland stem from the Ranch and provide hours of fun. The Ranch manager will guide you in the backcountry. Surrounding pastures provide a wonderful snowmobiling experience if you have to stay close for children, time is short, or you just feel a little less adventurous.

Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing – You can enjoy all the beauties of winter by taking a stroll on snowshoes or cross country skis. The Ranch has an assortment of cross country skis, boots and poles plus three sets of snowshoes (available for guests for no charge).  The groomed Lily Lake Cross Country Ski Area is just six miles from the Ranch.

Sledding – Small hills and bluffs rise from the banks of the Bear River. There are several spots where the slopes are ideal for a swift ride on a sled. The Ranch has several plastic sleds for your use.

Movie Theaters, Restaurants, Bowling, Golf – Evanston, Wyoming and Park City, Utah are not far from Kingfisher Bend Ranch. Evanston is a 25-minute drive and has a movie theater, bowling alley, a variety of restaurants, and an 18-hole golf course. Park City is about an hour away. It is home to the Sundance Film Festival, world-class ski resorts, and an assortment of shops, art galleries and fine dining.
